Agape Community is hiring for Education in Christian Nonviolence and Ecologically
Regenerative Living in an Intentional Community—a full-time, residential role for a
recent grad/post-grad.
Our ideal candidate will commit to one year of living an ecologically regenerative
way of life in an intentional community committed to Christian nonviolence.
About Agape
Agape is a lay Catholic residential community rooted in Christian nonviolence,
contemplative prayer, antiracism, and care for creation. We live simply on 34 acres in
the Quabbin Reservoir watershed—land first occupied by the Nipmuc Nation—in
dwellings built for solar energy, with compost systems and organic gardens.
What you’ll do
Working closely with co-founders Suzanne Belote Shanley and Brayton Shanley, plus
Agape staff, residents, and interns, you will:
- Design and lead in-person and digital programs rooted in Catholic liturgical life and nonviolent spirituality while integrating interfaith perspectives (Programs: Advent Evening, St. Brigid Night, Stations of the Cross ofNonviolence, and Easter Vigil)
- Mentor summer interns practicing homesteading (gardening, wood gathering, winter preparation)
- Participate fully in homesteading tasks, meal prep, and daily communal prayer
Qualifications
Recent graduate or postgraduate in Divinity, Theology, Religious Studies,
Environmental Theology/Sustainability, Peace & Justice Studies, or related fields, with:
- Commitment to Catholic social teaching and the Gospel call to nonviolence
- Openness to interfaith collaboration
- Passion for simple living and regenerative ecology
- Strong collaboration skills for an intentional community setting
Commitment & compensation
Full-time, residential (40 hrs/week) with a 1-year commitment. Compensation
includes room, board, and a negotiated stipend (based on need and length of
service).
